Our Mission

The Love Fund for Children bridges the gap for youth by partnering with advocates to fulfill the unique or unmet needs of children across Kansas City.

Our Story

The Love Fund for Children was founded by FOX4 in 1981. Anchor Cynthia Smith aired a news series entitled “Thursday’s Child” which resulted in a groundswell of viewer support. We created a 501(c)(3), and began serving children in the FOX4 viewing area. In the first 45 years we met critical needs for over 240,000 children. The Love Fund aims to be a safety net organization for children in Kansas City who are experiencing poverty and fulfill needs that are unmet by existing social services.

Our Vision

Helping build a stronger Kansas City community in which every child lives a life without need.

Measuring our Impact

In 2025, 6,710 students received school supplies, 2,480 teens received holiday gifts, and 788 children received critical items such as clothing, beds, hygiene supplies, medical equipment, and more. Thanks to YOU, more than 10,100 total children were served in 2025.

About Us

The Love Fund for Children was established to improve the quality of life for children ages newborn to 18 in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area when funding from other sources is not available. Examples of goods and services funded are, therapeutic tools, medical equipment, eye exams and glasses, clothing, shoes, beds and bedding, baby items, personal hygiene items and so much more.

The list of needs is long, and the Love Fund for Children is there to help. Our organization works directly with youth advocates such as case managers, therapists, counselors and medical care providers.

Our Purpose

The Love Fund’s purpose is to alleviate some of the concern, expense and worry a family faces when experiencing financial difficulty, life transitions, or needs of a differently abled child. We work to fill the gaps when current services are unable to meet the need.
