Lila’s New Tricycle

Lila is a three year old who is full of energy! She loves being with people, cuddling, and listening to music. She loves being outside to hear wind chimes or birds and feel the sun on her face. Her favorite thing to do is swim and splash in the water.

Lila has a diagnosis of Pitt Hopkins Syndrome, a rare genetic, neurological disorder that limits her motor planning and postural control. She is not yet walking independently and relies on a gait trainer for upright mobility. Her options for outdoor play were somewhat limited by her mobility and gross motor skills.

Lila’s family and physical therapist applied to the Love Fund for an adaptive tricycle. The tricycle provides lap and chest straps that ensure Lila’s safety while riding. The foot plates have a heel trap and two straps to keep her feet in place while she learns to ride independently.

With her new tricycle Lila can now spend time outside with family and friends while improving her strength and gross motor skills. The tricycle will greatly extend Lila’s outdoor play opportunities and will evoke more of her heart-melting smiles.

“It is a fun and functional way to improve Lila’s strength and skills to participate in activities with family and other kids her age”

— Jenn Powell, PT, MS, Lila’s Physical Therapist
